  • End-customer names, emails, addresses, or payment information
  • Shopify customer records
  • Order history

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only with subprocessors listed above, when required by law, to protect rights and safety, or in connection with a business transfer subject to this policy.

9. Data Retention & Deletion

While the app is installed — we retain data as needed to operate the Services.

On uninstall — we delete MongoDB shop data, products, keywords, and jobs; purge SmartPages from Google Cloud Storage; remove ScriptTags from your theme; and delete OAuth sessions from Neon.

After Shopify GDPR webhooks (shop/redact, customers/redact, customers/data_request) — we complete final erasure within Shopify's required timeframe (typically within 48 hours of uninstall).

Backups — any operational backups may retain data for up to 30 days before automatic deletion.

10. Data Location & Security

Data is hosted on Google Cloud (including regions such as Singapore and the United States), MongoDB Atlas, and Neon PostgreSQL. All traffic between your browser, Shopify, and our servers uses TLS/HTTPS encryption.

Access to production data is limited to authorized personnel. We use technical and organizational measures designed to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

We do not intentionally sell merchant or customer data.

11. Your Rights as a Merchant

You can:

  • Access and update your brand profile and keywords in the app
  • Delete keywords and SmartPages in the app
  • Uninstall the app from Shopify — this triggers data deletion as described above
  • Contact us at [email protected] for questions, access requests, or deletion requests

Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to correct, export, or restrict certain processing. We aim to respond to privacy requests within 30 days.

12. Shopify's Role

Merchants install Jarbug through the Shopify App Store. Shopify processes install and billing data under Shopify's Privacy Policy. Jarbug accesses store data only with the permissions you grant during installation. We do not access Shopify customer records or order history.

13. AI & Automated Processing

Jarbug uses artificial intelligence (OpenAI) to generate keyword suggestions and SmartPage content. Product catalog and brand information are sent to OpenAI for processing.

You can review content before or after publishing. AI-generated output may contain inaccuracies and should be reviewed for accuracy before going live on your storefront.

Under our OpenAI API agreement, data submitted through the API is not used to train OpenAI's models. OpenAI's handling of API data is governed by their Privacy Policy and applicable API terms.

14. Cookies & Tracking

On jarbug.com and in the embedded Shopify app, we use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember preferences, and measure usage of the Services. Essential cookies are required for the app to function.

On your storefront, Jarbug does not set cookies or use localStorage to track or profile store visitors. The internal linking widget and SmartPages do not create customer accounts or collect buyer personal information.

You can control cookies through your browser settings. Disabling some cookies may affect how parts of the Services work.

15. Google API Services & Limited Use

When you connect Google Search Console, Jarbug accesses search performance data (clicks, impressions, rankings) for your store URLs to power the results dashboard.

When you connect Google Ads Keyword Planner, Jarbug uses the Google Ads API to read keyword planning data — including keyword ideas, monthly search volume, and competition metrics — to generate SEO opportunity reports. We request only the access needed for this purpose. We do not create, modify, or run advertising campaigns, and we do not access your billing or payment details.

Jarbug's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We do not transfer or sell Google user data for advertising. You can disconnect your Google account at any time and request deletion of associated data by contacting [email protected].

16. California Privacy (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including the right to know what personal information we collect and the right to request deletion. We do not sell personal information. To exercise your rights, contact [email protected].

17. International Data Transfers

We process and store information in countries including India, the United States, and Singapore. If you are located in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or other regions with data transfer requirements, we use appropriate safeguards — such as standard contractual clauses where applicable — to protect information transferred across borders.

18. Children's Privacy

The Services are intended for businesses and are not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us so we can remove it.

19. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Where appropriate, we will notify you through the app or by email. Your continued use of the Services after an update means you accept the revised policy.
